Manpower Minister Tan See Leng Emphasizes Fair Workplace Practices in May Day Message
As global uncertainty and economic disruptions continue, tripartism and trust remain Singapore’s competitive advantage, said Manpower Minister Tan See Leng in his May Day message on April 27. He emphasized that collaboration between the government, employers, and workers will be crucial in navigating challenges ahead.
Dr. Tan highlighted that many countries face adversarial industrial relations, leading to negative outcomes for workers, businesses, and society. In contrast, Singapore’s tripartite model—built on cooperation and mutual trust—has enabled the country to maintain stability and economic progress.
“The pace of change in the economy is accelerating, and more workers will likely face unexpected challenges,” he said. To address this, the government will introduce a new support scheme later this year to assist workers who experience involuntary job displacement.
Additionally, Dr. Tan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fair and merit-based workplace practices, ensuring that Singapore remains a resilient and inclusive workforce in an increasingly uncertain world.
