Tragedy Strikes as 13 Confirmed Dead in Batang Kali Incident
Three Singaporeans were among those rescued from a deadly landslide in Malaysia, according to China Press. The incident took place at Father’s Organic Farm in the Batang Kali area, on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, in the early hours of December 16.
The site, near the town of Gohtong Jaya, is located less than 15km from the popular Genting Highlands. As of the latest update, 13 fatalities have been confirmed, including a boy, six women, and one man. Malaysian authorities reported that approximately 25 people remain trapped, and search efforts continue.
Rescue operations have led to the safe retrieval of at least 60 people by 10:40am on Friday, with seven individuals sustaining injuries. Some of the injured victims are receiving treatment at Hospital Selayang in Selangor.
The emergency response began at 2:24am when a distress call was received. Firefighters arrived on the scene by 3am, with K-9 units deployed to assist in locating the remaining victims. In total, around 94 people were affected by the landslide, the majority of whom were local residents.
The eco-tourism campsite, known for educational tours on organic farming, is a popular stop for visitors heading to the nearby casino and theme park. Roads leading to the area have been closed to facilitate rescue operations and the movement of heavy machinery.
