Updated Pfizer vaccine for Omicron subvariants expected to arrive by October end, with continued focus on vaccinations
The updated Pfizer Comirnaty Covid-19 vaccine, targeting the current Omicron subvariant XBB 1.5, is expected to arrive in Singapore by the end of October, announced Senior Minister of State for Health, Janil Puthucheary, in Parliament on Tuesday. The vaccine, which has recently been approved for those aged six months and above, will be reviewed by the expert committee to determine its suitability for the local population.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) continues to emphasize the importance of Covid-19 vaccinations in maintaining public health resilience. Although Singapore has moved to Dorscon Green, indicating a lower response level, the virus remains dangerous, and vaccinations play a crucial role in preventing severe illness. Dr. Puthucheary urged vulnerable groups, such as those aged 60 and above, to receive the updated booster shot. The vaccine will remain free under the National Vaccination Programme for those eligible.
