Sultan Ibrahim to Meet President Halimah and Prime Minister Lee in Three-Day Visit
Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the ruler of Johor, will make an official visit to Singapore this week, following an invitation from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced on Tuesday, 19th July.
During his visit from Wednesday to Friday, Sultan Ibrahim is set to meet with President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee. Additionally, he will have discussions with Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. A meeting with Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean had also been planned but was postponed after Teo tested positive for COVID-19.
Accompanied by his wife, Raja Zarith Sofiah, Crown Prince Tunku Ismail, and his wife Che’ Puan Besar Khaleeda, as well as Johor’s Chief Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi and other state officials, Sultan Ibrahim will receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from the National University of Singapore (NUS) on Wednesday. This honour recognises his efforts in strengthening ties between Singapore and Johor.
A new orchid hybrid, the Dendrobium Ibrahim Zarith, will also be named in their honour. The Sultan’s itinerary includes visits to the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Woodlands North terminus, Sembawang Air Base, and the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute.
This visit comes shortly after Prime Minister Lee’s trip to Johor in May, where he was awarded the First Class, Grand Commander of the Order of the Crown of Johor (SPMJ) by Sultan Ibrahim. Mrs Lee, Mdm Ho Ching, also received the First Class, Grand Commander of the Order of Sultan Ibrahim of Johor (SMIJ).
