SkillsFuture Credit top-up for mid-career workers to remain valid

Singapore extends mid-career learning support with new credit structure

The Singapore government has announced that the S$500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up given in 2020 to Singaporeans aged 40 to 60 will no longer expire at the end of 2025. Instead, any remaining balance will be merged with the new S$4,000 mid-career top-up introduced in Budget 2024.

Education Minister Chan Chun Sing confirmed that the mid-career top-up, which takes effect on May 1, will have no expiry date. This move aims to provide flexibility for workers seeking career transitions and skills upgrading. The credit can be used for over 7,000 courses with strong employability outcomes, including full-time and part-time qualifications, SkillsFuture career transition programs, and courses aligned with the Progressive Wage Model.

While the mid-career tier remains valid indefinitely, a separate S$500 top-up for all Singaporeans aged 25 and above will still expire at the end of 2025. The government estimates that its lifetime investment in individual skills development could exceed S$300,000, excluding a training allowance of up to S$72,000.

With an increasing emphasis on lifelong learning, Singapore continues to strengthen its workforce through targeted subsidies and financial support for professional development.
