The Singapore Tourism Board is optimistic about the swift recovery of the MICE industry, with numerous international events already secured for 2022 and beyond.
Singapore’s meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) sector is expected to fully recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic within the next 2 to 3 years, according to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). The industry is showing promising signs of recovery, with over 150 events held in the first three months of 2022, attracting more than 37,000 attendees. In total, Singapore hosted over 200 events in the previous year, with 49,000 delegates in attendance.
In addition to this encouraging recovery, Singapore has already secured at least 66 international events for the remainder of 2022 and has a strong pipeline of events lined up for 2023. To further accelerate this momentum, STB has introduced an upgraded incentive programme called In Singapore Incentives and Rewards (Inspire Global 2.0). This programme offers MICE groups a selection of 80 complementary experiences in Singapore, an increase from the 54 options previously available. New experiences include visits to Scentopia, Sentosa’s latest perfumery attraction, dining experiences from lifestyle group 1-Group, and wellness options at Urban Yogis yoga centre.
Additionally, a new retail category has been added to the programme, offering exclusive shopping experiences at Design Orchard and behind-the-scenes tours with designers. STB continues to offer various assistance schemes to attract MICE events to Singapore, including the Business Events in Singapore (BEiS) scheme, which promotes innovation and the adoption of sustainable practices within the industry.
STB Deputy Chief Executive Yap Chin Siang noted that the business community is eager to resume in-person meetings and networking, and the recent easing of border restrictions positions the MICE industry for a strong recovery.
