Singapore to invest up to S$100 million in 10 Gbps fibre network upgrade

High-speed Nationwide Broadband Network to benefit over half a million households by 2028

Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has announced an investment of up to S$100 million to upgrade the Nationwide Broadband Network (NBN) to support speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps). The upgrade, which is set to begin in mid-2024 and be completed by 2026, will involve improvements to both the back-end network infrastructure and the front-end user equipment.

This major investment aims to provide faster and more reliable internet services to businesses and consumers, enabling higher-speed offerings at more competitive prices. IMDA expects that over half a million households will sign up for the upgraded services by 2028, benefiting from the faster speeds and enhanced connectivity.

The move is part of Singapore’s broader push to stay at the forefront of technological innovation and ensure that the country’s broadband infrastructure can meet the growing demands of digital services and businesses in the future.
