Singapore Reports No Mpox Clade I Cases; Targeted Vaccinations Introduced

Authorities implement preventive measures as Clade II cases remain under control

Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed that no cases of the highly infectious Clade I mpox variant have been detected in the country. However, 14 cases of the less severe Clade II variant have been identified, according to Dr. Marc Ho from MOH’s Communicable Diseases Policy and Preparedness Division.

Key Updates
Clade I remains confined to Africa, with a low risk of importation due to lack of direct flights between Singapore and affected regions.
The country’s infectious disease alert level remains at “outbreak management”, a step above baseline but far below pandemic response levels.
Temperature and visual screening are in place at airports for travelers from affected areas.
Vaccination Strategy
MOH has introduced selective vaccinations for two key groups:

Healthcare workers with high exposure risk.
Close contacts of confirmed mpox cases.
The Jynneos vaccine will be administered to these individuals, with MOH assuring that current vaccine supplies are sufficient based on existing strategies.

Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung emphasized that contingency plans are in place and will be adjusted as more is learned about the virus.
