Cases show slight decrease, but weekly infection rate continues to rise
SINGAPORE – Singapore recorded 9,392 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Wednesday (Jun 29), consisting of 8,789 local infections and 603 imported cases. One new death was reported, bringing the total death toll from COVID-19 complications to 1,411.
This marks a decrease from the 11,504 cases reported on Tuesday, which was the highest daily count in over three months. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has previously noted that case numbers tend to rise after weekends, as observed in previous patterns.
Currently, 455 patients are hospitalised, with 46 requiring oxygen supplementation and 7 in the intensive care unit. The week-on-week infection ratio has increased to 1.65, indicating that new COVID-19 cases are rising.
Among local cases, 8,075 were identified through antigen rapid tests (ARTs) and assessed as low-risk with mild symptoms, while 714 were confirmed via polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. Of the imported cases, 568 were ART-tested and 35 were PCR-tested.
Since the start of the pandemic, Singapore has reported a total of 1,434,563 COVID-19 cases. As of Tuesday, 96% of the eligible population has completed their full vaccination, and approximately 78% have received a booster dose.
