Singapore MFA Denounces Russian Military Action in Ukraine

Call for Immediate End to Hostilities and Respect for Sovereignty

Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has expressed grave concern over Russia’s initiation of a “special military operation” in Ukraine’s Donbas region, following President Vladimir Putin’s announcement. Hours after the declaration, Russian forces crossed into Ukrainian territory, escalating the conflict.

Singapore’s Strong Condemnation
In an official statement released on Feb. 24, MFA unequivocally condemned Russia’s unprovoked military invasion, emphasising the need to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry described the developments as deeply troubling and called for an immediate cessation of military actions.

“Singapore is gravely concerned by Russia’s announcement of the start of a ‘special military operation’ in the Donbas region; and reports of land and air attacks on multiple targets in Ukraine on 24 February 2022.

Singapore strongly condemns any unprovoked invasion of a sovereign country under any pretext.

We reiterate that the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected.

We hope military actions will cease immediately; and urge a peaceful settlement of the dispute, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.”

Call for Peaceful Resolution
Singapore’s MFA urged all parties involved to pursue peaceful dialogue and adhere to international law to resolve the dispute, underscoring the importance of global stability and adherence to the principles of sovereignty.
