Singapore and UAE Ink Deals on Green Economy, Artificial Intelligence

Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Future Cooperation in Various Sectors

Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed multiple agreements to enhance their cooperation in areas like the green economy, climate change, digital government, education, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and halal food certification. A total of seven memoranda of understanding (MOUs) were signed, in addition to a green economy framework agreement, which were exchanged in the presence of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on October 22, 2023.

These agreements further cement the strong bilateral relations between the two nations, which have been reinforced through the Singapore-UAE Comprehensive Partnership, established in February 2019. The cooperation is designed to achieve net-zero emission goals by 2050, alongside advancing sustainable energy transitions and fostering a supportive global economic environment.

In a joint statement on climate cooperation, both leaders stressed the importance of financial commitments and multilateral support in achieving these climate goals. Prime Minister Lee also visited the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and discussed decarbonization opportunities, particularly in renewables and hydrogen production, with UAE officials. The strategic partnership between Singapore and the UAE continues to evolve, with a focus on innovation and shared global challenges.
