New occupational codes reflect growing demand in digital and sustainability sectors
In response to the growing importance of the digital, green, and care economies, Singapore has introduced new occupational codes in its national statistical standard. This update is particularly focused on jobs in infocomm technology (ICT) and the green economy.
The new codes include roles such as ICT product manager, AI applied researcher, and AI/machine learning engineer, reflecting the country’s push toward a digital economy. Additionally, cybersecurity roles like cyber incident investigation specialist and threat analysis specialist have been added due to the increasing demand for cybersecurity professionals.
For the green economy, roles like environmental analyst, energy portfolio manager, and sustainability project development professional were created in anticipation of the rising need for sustainability-related jobs, especially in carbon management services. Other sectors, such as agriculture and risk analysis, have also seen new classifications to accommodate evolving job requirements in these fields.
