Scotland Strengthen Squad for England Match as Graham and Russell Await Fitness Tests

Ali Price and other players called up as Scotland monitor the recovery of Darcy Graham and Finn Russell

Ahead of their upcoming Six Nations fixture against England, Scotland have made some adjustments to their squad, adding three new players as they await updates on Darcy Graham and Finn Russell’s fitness. The additions include British & Irish Lions scrumhalf Ali Price, along with Ross McCann and Cameron Redpath, as the team prepares for the match at Twickenham on Saturday.

The Scottish Rugby Union announced the changes, confirming that the new players would replace injured Matt Currie and dropped player Alexander Masibaka. Currie, who sustained a concussion in Edinburgh’s recent United Rugby Championship match against Zebre, is out of contention. Masibaka has returned to his club following his removal from the squad.

Ali Price, a 68-time capped scrumhalf, was not included in the initial Six Nations squad but has been added after George Horne sustained a facial injury during Glasgow’s victory over Dragons. Horne’s return to the squad is contingent on approval from club doctors.

Centre Cameron Redpath, who has recently returned from injury, has been added to the squad after proving his fitness through appearances for Bath. Wing cover has been provided by Ross McCann, who joins the squad as an additional option.

The squad is still waiting on the status of Darcy Graham and Finn Russell, both of whom were involved in a head clash during Scotland’s 32-18 loss to Ireland earlier in the month. Graham, who was stretchered off after extended treatment on the field, and Russell, who passed his Head Injury Assessment but showed signs of memory loss regarding team plays, have been following World Rugby concussion protocols. Their progress is being monitored with hopes that they will return to full training by the end of the week, though it is still uncertain whether either player will be cleared to play against England.

Edinburgh’s coach, Sean Everitt, expressed doubt about Graham’s recovery timeline, suggesting that a return within 12 days might not be realistic, though recent scans showed no serious damage.
