SBF Launches Trade and Investment Initiative to Enhance Global Trade Capabilities

The Centre for the Future of Trade and Investment will foster collaboration between businesses, government, and thought leaders

On Thursday, July 25, 2024, the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) unveiled the Centre for the Future of Trade and Investment (CFOTI), a new public-private partnership aimed at enhancing the trade and investment capabilities of Singapore and regional businesses. The initiative was introduced by SBF vice-chairman Andrew Kwan at the inaugural Future of Trade Forum during the Singapore Apex Business Summit.

CFOTI is supported by key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Enterprise Singapore, and a wide range of businesses, foundations, and other partners. The initiative seeks to build a robust community of trade and investment practitioners, thought leaders, and government officials who will collaborate to shape global trade in a way that is inclusive, sustainable, and adaptable to future needs.

SBF’s Kwan highlighted the goal of this initiative to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and practices that would help businesses navigate the complexities of global trade. At the forum, Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng addressed the ongoing disruptions in trade and globalization, citing key factors such as the US-China trade contestation and the shifting dynamics of global trade influenced by geopolitical tensions.

The CFOTI initiative aims to prepare businesses for the evolving trade landscape by fostering collaboration and providing insights into emerging trends and challenges. It is designed to ensure that Singapore’s businesses remain competitive in an increasingly complex global economy.
