Singapore Prime Minister Attends Key Economic Meeting, Meets US Leaders and Business Figures
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore is in San Francisco this week for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which will take place from November 13 to 18, 2023. He was invited by US President Joe Biden and will attend a series of meetings focusing on economic cooperation, climate change, and supply chain resilience, under the theme “Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All.”
During the summit, PM Lee will meet with other APEC leaders and engage in bilateral discussions on the sidelines, aiming to strengthen international relations within the APEC community, which represents 40% of the world’s population and about 60% of the global GDP. Among his key engagements, PM Lee is set to meet California Governor Gavin Newsom, and US business leaders, including Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Additionally, PM Lee will launch Enterprise Singapore’s new overseas center in San Francisco and connect with Singaporeans living in the Bay Area. The summit also comes at a time of rising geopolitical tensions, with the US-China relationship under scrutiny as Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping prepare for their highly anticipated bilateral meeting.
During PM Lee’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will serve as acting Prime Minister of Singapore.
