Oh Young-soo Wins Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Squid Game’

South Korean Actor Shines in Hit Series with Iconic Role as Player 001

Oh Young-soo, known for his role as Player 001 in the global phenomenon Squid Game, won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series at the 79th Golden Globe Awards on January 10, Singapore time. His portrayal of Oh Il-nam, an elderly man seeking to enjoy life before his death, captured audiences worldwide and earned him the prestigious award.

At 79, Oh was nominated alongside other talented actors, including Brett Goldstein from Ted Lasso, Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass from The Morning Show, and Kieran Culkin from Succession. The Golden Globes ceremony this year was held virtually due to a boycott and controversies surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, with winners announced via social media rather than in-person or through a livestream.

Oh’s victory underscores the massive global impact of Squid Game, cementing his place as a standout performer in a breakthrough year for the series.
