New Labour Alliance Aims to Foster Partnerships for Joint Research and Innovation
The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has launched the NTUC Labour Alliance co-laB (LAB), a unique initiative to tackle labour challenges. The alliance brings together 50 experts, including academics, practitioners, and researchers, who are passionate about improving the lives of workers in Singapore.
The goal of LAB is to foster collaboration on joint projects and sandbox ideas that can directly address the issues faced by workers. Patrick Tay, NTUC’s assistant secretary-general, emphasized that the initiative grew from an informal network formed during the Covid-19 pandemic, where members worked on various research projects. Some of these were published in the Singapore Labour Journal.
This partnership aims to bridge the gap between research and practical application, helping to translate academic work into actionable policies for real-world impact. Additionally, NTUC is considering funding some of these projects to ensure they contribute meaningfully to the labour landscape.
