Team includes notable figures such as former presidential hopeful Mohamed Salleh Marican
On August 21, 2023, presidential hopeful Ng Kok Song revealed his team of supporters, including his proposer, seconder, and eight assenters, as he prepares for the upcoming Presidential Election. Ng, 75, a former chief investment officer at GIC, was granted his certificate of eligibility on August 18, 2023.
His proposer is Quah Wee Ghee, who co-founded the global asset management company Avanda Investment Management with Ng. Quah is a former president of Public Markets at GIC and has served on the boards of OCBC and Bank of Singapore.
Ng’s seconder is Dr. Carol Tan, a geriatrician at The Good Life Medical Center. Dr. Tan has played a key role in developing standards and financing frameworks for community services, including nursing homes and community hospitals.
In addition to Quah and Dr. Tan, Ng’s eight assenters include notable figures such as Justice of Peace Ameerali Abdeali, Ho Tian Yee (chairman of Fullerton Fund Management), former presidential hopeful Mohamed Salleh Marican, and philanthropist Margaret Chan. Other assenters include Abdul Hamid Abdullah, Tjio Hans, and Angelene Chan.
Ng’s announcement of his team comes ahead of Nomination Day on August 22, 2023, as he joins former senior minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam and former NTUC Income chief Tan Kin Lian in the race for the presidency. Voters will cast their ballots on September 1, 2023.
