Moderna Covid-19 Vaccine Available for Children Aged 6 Months to 4 Years in Singapore Starting October 2022

Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty vaccine expected by end of 2022

Children aged between six months and four years in Singapore will soon be eligible for the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine. The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that the Spikevax vaccine by Moderna will be available to this age group starting in October 2022.

In addition, the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty vaccine is expected to be available by the end of 2022. The primary vaccination regimen for the Moderna vaccine will consist of two 25-microgram doses, administered 28 days apart.

The announcement follows the Health Sciences Authority’s (HSA) approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty vaccine for children aged six months to four years old, making it the second HSA-authorised Covid-19 vaccine for young children in Singapore. Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine will require three 3-microgram doses. The first two doses will be given three weeks apart, followed by the third dose, which will be administered at least eight weeks after the second dose.

These developments come after Moderna’s vaccine was approved on August 24, 2022, as a Covid-19 vaccination option for young children.
