Ministry of Education Announces Return of School Camps by Late May

Outward Bound and Outdoor Adventure Learning Camps to Resume Under New Safe Management Measures

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has confirmed that school camps, including those for the Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) Challenge Programme and Outdoor Adventure Learning (OAL) cohort camps, will gradually restart around the end of May 2022.

This decision forms part of the adjustments to safe management measures (SMMs) in schools and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), as outlined by the MOE on 26 April. The changes are aligned with Singapore’s shift to the DORSCON Yellow status, following guidelines set by the SportSG and the National Arts Council.

As part of the revised measures, schools will no longer have group size or safe distancing restrictions for activities, including recess. Masks will still be required indoors, except during Physical Education, sports, singing, wind instrument playing, speech and drama, dancing, and certain language/literacy lessons.

The mandatory use of SafeEntry check-ins with TraceTogether has been removed. In addition, students can now participate in activities like Co-Curricular Activities, the National School Games (NSG), and the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation regardless of their vaccination status. Students will also be permitted to watch and support their peers during the semi-finals and finals of the NSG, subject to venue capacity. Family members and other spectators will be allowed at a later stage.

Other SMMs, such as daily health screenings for students and frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces, will remain in place.

For Institutes of Higher Learning, the relaxed measures include the removal of group size and distancing limits. Masks will still be worn indoors, except during selected activities like eating, drinking, sports, and live performances. Vaccination Differentiated Safe Management Measures (VDS) will apply only to events with over 500 participants and dining at F&B establishments on campus. SafeEntry check-ins via TraceTogether are also no longer necessary.
