Meta Lays Off at Least 10 Employees in Singapore Amid Global Cuts

Mass Layoffs Affect Staff Across Various Teams as Meta Reduces Workforce

At least 10 employees in Singapore have been impacted by the recent mass layoffs at Meta, part of a global reduction of 11,000 workers—around 13% of the company’s 87,000-strong workforce. The layoffs were announced on November 10, and the final number of job cuts at Meta’s Singapore office is expected to rise.

Meta’s Asia-Pacific headquarters, located in Singapore’s Marina Bay financial district, has yet to disclose the current number of employees in the region. However, reports from 2018 indicated that the company had over 1,000 employees in the country.

Among those affected, some took to LinkedIn to share their experiences. Syahid Ismail, a business integrity escalations specialist at Meta, expressed his shock at receiving the layoff notice via email, sharing his emotional reaction to the news. “It was truly heart and gut-wrenching to have a dream come true expire prematurely,” he wrote, adding that he remained hopeful for future opportunities.

Alex Fenby, who had worked as head of news partnerships in Southeast Asia, also shared his gratitude for his four years at Meta. “The past four years at Meta have been nothing short of life-changing,” he wrote on LinkedIn, expressing thanks for the relationships he had built and the meaningful work he had done.

Another employee, Rebecca O., reflected on her nearly four-year journey with Meta, expressing love for her work and the people she had encountered. “I got to meet so many amazing, talented, and open people,” she wrote, also emphasising the real-world impact of her work in areas like election integrity and supporting communities during the COVID-19 period.

Other employees affected by the layoffs include recruiters and staff in product management and the gaming division. The recent cuts come amid a wave of job reductions in major global tech firms, such as Twitter and Microsoft, as the industry faces economic challenges.
