Malaysian Drivers Can Now Apply for Singapore Driving Licences Online

New Trial Process Aims to Streamline Licence Conversion

As of July 14, Malaysian drivers can now apply online to convert their driving licences to Singaporean ones, under a new trial introduced by the Singapore Traffic Police. This initiative aims to reduce waiting times and streamline the process at the Traffic Police headquarters.

The online application process involves several steps. First, foreign drivers will submit their applications online to verify eligibility before visiting the Traffic Police headquarters. Applicants will receive an email asking them to submit supporting documents. Once the documents are received, they will be reviewed, and applicants will be informed of the outcome within 10 working days.

If all criteria are met, applicants will be assigned a date and time to visit the Traffic Police headquarters for document verification and the final conversion.

In addition to submitting the necessary paperwork, applicants must also pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT) at any of Singapore’s driving centres. Other eligibility requirements include possessing a valid foreign driving licence (with an official English translation if necessary), an extract of the driving licence record, and a valid International Driving Permit (IDP).

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) noted that due to the higher-than-usual volume of applications, extra time may be required to process and authenticate the documents.
