Lawrence Wong to Become Deputy Chairman of GIC from Oct 1

Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will step into a key role at Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC.

Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will take on the role of deputy chairman at GIC starting October 1. In this position, Wong will assist the chairman in leading the board, overseeing GIC’s long-term asset allocation and portfolio performance. The current chairman of the GIC board is Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Wong, who also serves as Singapore’s finance minister, has been a director of GIC since November 2018. Additionally, he has chaired GIC’s Investment Strategies Committee since July 2023, following the resignation of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Wong’s role in the committee involves evaluating recommendations on asset allocations and overseeing overall portfolio performance.

He is also the chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Singapore Economic Development Board’s International Advisory Council.
