Ministerial announcement sees new appointments and reappointments at the Singapore Economic Development Board
Labour MP Desmond Choo has been appointed to the board of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), effective February 1, as part of recent board changes announced by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on January 31. Choo, who is also the assistant secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), represents Tampines GRC in Parliament and serves as the Mayor of the North East District.
Choo holds several key positions within the labour movement, including as an advisor to multiple unions such as the Attractions, Resorts and Entertainment Union, the Singapore Union of Broadcasting Employees, and the Union of Security Employees. He is also a trustee of the Singapore Shell Employees’ Union and serves on the boards of Surbana Jurong and SBS Transit.
Two board members, Patrick Tay Teck Guan and Tan Hooi Ling, will step down at the end of their terms. Tay is NTUC’s assistant secretary-general and the MP for Pioneer SMC, while Tan is the co-founder of Grab.
In addition, five EDB board members have been reappointed:
Alexander Charles Hungate, COO of Grab
Forrest Li, founder, chairman, and group CEO of Sea
Gan Seow Kee, vice-chairman of the Singapore Business Federation
Liew Wei Li, deputy director-general of education (schools) at the Ministry of Education
Magesvaran Suranjan, president of P&G (Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa)
