Work-life balance is a key factor in the rise of job changes
Job-switching in Singapore reached a six-year high in 2022, driven by a recovering economy, with 16.8% of employed residents changing jobs within the last two years, according to the Ministry of Manpower’s annual Labour Force report. Notably, the information and communications sector saw the highest job-switching rate, with 18.1% of workers changing jobs in the past year, up from 14% in 2021.
While higher pay was a significant factor in job-switching, manpower agencies and employers highlighted that work-life balance also played a crucial role in the decision to switch. This trend coincides with what some have referred to as the “great resignation” or “great re-evaluation,” which has influenced employment patterns since mid-2021.
