Japan to Lift Restrictions on Non-Escorted Package Tours and Increase Daily Arrival Limit

New Travel Measures Set to Begin from September 7

Starting from September 7, Japan will allow overseas travellers to enter the country through non-escorted package tours, eliminating the previous requirement for guided tours with chaperones. This announcement, made by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on August 31 and reported by Japan Times, marks a significant shift in Japan’s travel policies.

In addition to this change, Japan will increase its daily arrival cap from 20,000 to 50,000, further easing travel restrictions. Fully vaccinated travellers, including those who have received booster shots, will also be able to enter the country without the need for a pre-departure Covid-19 test, starting from the same date, as confirmed by NHK.
