James Dyson Honoured with Public Service Star for Economic Contributions

Dyson Founder Recognised as Distinguished Friend of Singapore

On National Day, August 9, British entrepreneur and billionaire James Dyson received the Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore), an honour bestowed by the Singapore government for significant contributions to the nation’s economic growth.

Top Honour for Foreign Contributors
Established by the Economic Development Board (EDB) in 1998, the Distinguished Friends of Singapore award represents the highest form of recognition for non-Singaporeans advancing the country’s development. Dyson, the founder of the multinational tech company renowned for its innovative household appliances, expressed gratitude for the award in a memo to his staff.

He attributed the accolade to Singapore’s supportive ecosystem for high-tech manufacturing, highlighting the nation’s strong emphasis on STEM education, partnerships with universities, and the efforts of its talented engineers and scientists.

Acknowledging Global Leaders
Dyson was one of four foreign business leaders honoured with the Public Service Star this year, alongside:

Marcus Wallenberg, Swedish banker and member of the Temasek International Panel.
Shimano Yozo, Singapore’s Honorary Consul-General in Osaka.
Bill Winters, Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank.
In total, 67 individuals received awards recognising their contributions to Singapore’s growth and development.

Dyson’s recognition underscores Singapore’s commitment to fostering collaboration with global innovators and business leaders, strengthening its position as a hub for technology and economic advancement.
