Foreign Entry Halted Amid Rising Covid-19 Cases
In response to a surge in Covid-19 cases driven by the Omicron variant, Indonesia has restricted foreign tourist entry through Jakarta’s Sukarno-Hatta Airport, Reuters confirmed.
This decision, aimed at controlling the spread of infections, also affects Indonesian citizens returning from international travel. On February 6, Indonesia reported 36,000 new Covid-19 cases, with hospital bed occupancy in Jakarta reaching 63%.
Limited Entry Points for International Visitors
Currently, only three airports in Indonesia are open to foreign tourists: Bali, Batam, and Tanjung Pinang in the Riau Islands.
Bali, in particular, resumed receiving international tourists on February 3, with six individuals arriving from Tokyo on business visas via a Garuda Indonesia flight. Singapore Airlines plans to restart flights to Bali on February 16, as reported by The Straits Times.
Additionally, a travel bubble between Singapore and Batam-Bintan was established on January 24. However, visitors are restricted to designated bubble zones, adhering to specific itineraries and activities.
