Indian PM Modi Embarks on Two-Day Visit to Singapore

Strengthening bilateral ties through economic engagement and high-level meetings

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Singapore for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. This marks Modi’s fifth visit to Singapore, but his first trip to Southeast Asia since securing re-election in June 2024.

Key Highlights of the Visit
Modi’s trip follows his historic visit to Brunei, the first-ever by an Indian Prime Minister.
Upon arrival, PM Wong hosted a dinner at the Istana, expressing his enthusiasm for discussions ahead.
Modi will be formally welcomed at Parliament House and will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, PM Wong, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong will also host a separate engagement with the Indian leader.
Economic and Business Engagements
The visit includes key economic and trade discussions, with Modi:

Participating in a business roundtable organized by the Singapore Business Federation.
Engaging semiconductor industry players, following discussions on advanced manufacturing and connectivity during the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) last week.
Meeting students from the India Ready Talent Programme and Odisha World Skill Center interns working in Singapore companies.
Accompanying Modi are External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other senior officials, reinforcing India’s commitment to deepening ties with Singapore.
