Volocopter launches Asia’s first exhibition at ITE College Central
Singapore is gearing up for a transportation revolution as German company Volocopter plans to introduce flying taxis by 2024. The innovative VoloCity air taxis promise to transform urban mobility, offering sustainable, traffic-free travel options.
A New Era of Commuting
Volocopter’s VoloCity air taxis will cater to tourists, business travellers, and daily commuters. The initial routes will highlight scenic locations such as Marina Bay Sands, the Central Business District, and Sentosa. Business travellers can anticipate quicker regional trips to Johor Bahru and Batam, bypassing congestion at border crossings.
The company aims to build four to six VoloPorts at Marina South, Sentosa, and Changi to support the service. Over time, Volocopter envisions making air taxis an affordable option for all commuters.
VoloCity’s Cutting-Edge Features
Powered by electricity, the VoloCity offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional transport. Its vertical take-off and landing technology enables it to navigate urban areas with minimal noise pollution. Key specifications include:
Range: 35km
Cruise speed: Up to 90km/h
Capacity: 200kg (equivalent to two passengers and light luggage)
Proven Technology and Economic Potential
Volocopter demonstrated the feasibility of flying taxis with a crewed test flight over Marina Bay in 2019. The service is expected to create up to 1,300 jobs and generate S$41.8 billion in economic benefits for Singapore by 2030.
Public Exhibition at ITE College Central
To introduce the concept to the public, Volocopter has launched its first VoloCity exhibition in Asia at the Aerospace Hub in ITE College Central. Visitors can explore a 3D model of the VoloPort, learn about urban air mobility, and experience the interior of the aircraft.
Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong, who attended the exhibition launch, expressed optimism about Singapore’s potential as a leader in advanced air mobility. The exhibition is open for a limited time and provides an exciting glimpse into the future of transportation.
