Electrical Fire in 5th Floor Unit Leads to Evacuation and Hospitalization
A fire broke out at Block 806 Woodlands Street 81 in the early hours of December 19, prompting the evacuation of around 100 residents. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the police carried out the evacuation as a safety precaution.
The fire, which was reported to SCDF at approximately 2:00am, involved the contents of a living room in a 5th-floor unit. SCDF extinguished the blaze using two hosereels, and three individuals were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.
Preliminary investigations by SCDF revealed that the fire had an electrical origin, traced to a Personal Mobility Aid (PMA) in the living room. This incident follows closely after the death of SGT (1) Edward H Go, who tragically lost his life fighting another electrical fire at Henderson Road.
SCDF has reminded users of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs), Power-Assisted Bicycles (PABs), and Personal Mobility Aids (PMAs) to avoid charging batteries for extended periods or overnight. Additionally, they advise against using non-original batteries to prevent such incidents.
