EnterpriseSG Scraps CEO Role, Redesignates Lee Chuan Teck as Executive Chairman

New leadership structure aims to enhance strategic involvement and global engagement for local businesses

Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) is set to undergo a major leadership restructuring, eliminating the chief executive officer (CEO) position and appointing Lee Chuan Teck as the agency’s new executive chairman effective April 1, 2024. Lee will succeed Peter Ong, who is retiring as the non-executive chairman after leading the agency since 2018.

The move reflects a shift toward a more hands-on leadership approach, combining vision with direct involvement in the agency’s operations. The change also aims to improve EnterpriseSG’s ability to engage with stakeholders and expand opportunities for local businesses on the global stage.

Lee’s new role as executive chairman will focus on guiding the agency’s strategic direction. He previously served as the CEO of EnterpriseSG and has had a distinguished career in public service, including leadership roles at the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Ministry of Transport. The appointment of a managing director will be announced later.

The restructuring is seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen EnterpriseSG’s contributions to Singapore’s economic growth, particularly in empowering local enterprises to scale internationally.
