Competition Watchdog Names Former Director Alvin Koh as New CEO

Alvin Koh returns to lead CCCS after a distinguished career in the public sector

The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) has appointed Alvin Koh as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2024. Koh succeeds Sia Aik Kor, who has led the commission since 2019 and will transition to a new role at the State Courts.

Koh, who previously served as the director of legal and enforcement at CCCS from 2008 to 2012, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. As CEO, he will oversee the administration and enforcement of the Competition Act and the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, while advising the government and public agencies on matters related to competition and consumer protection.

In his new role, Koh expressed his commitment to tackling anti-competitive practices and unfair conduct. He highlighted that CCCS would focus on digital markets, price transparency, and supporting Singapore’s green transition in the medium term.

Koh’s career spans various public-sector positions, including roles at the Ministry of Finance, Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, and the Supreme Court of Singapore. He also served as the Chief Legal Officer at the Ministry of Manpower between 2019 and 2023, overseeing significant policy developments.
