Additional One-Time Bonus for Junior Staff, Totaling 1.45-Month Bonus for 2022
SINGAPORE: In a move to recognise the dedication of public officers, civil servants in Singapore will receive a 1.1-month year-end bonus. Junior grade officers will also benefit from an additional one-time payment of S$700, the Public Service Division (PSD) announced on Thursday (Nov 24).
Officers at MX15 grade and below will be eligible for the extra payment. This year-end bonus takes into account the current economic situation while acknowledging the hard work of public servants, according to the PSD.
Alongside this, the Government will maintain the non-pensionable annual allowance, often referred to as the 13th-month bonus, which equates to one month of salary.
When combined with the mid-year payments, civil servants will receive a total of 1.45 months in full-year annual variable component (AVC). Junior-grade officers will receive an additional one-time payment, which could reach up to S$1,100 in 2022. PSD also reiterated its commitment to a progressive approach in setting the AVC for civil servants.
In addition to this, civil servants received a 0.35-month mid-year bonus in 2022.
Last year, public officers received a total of 1.3 months in full-year AVC, with additional one-time payments for junior-grade officers reaching up to S$1,200.
The PSD noted that Singapore’s economy grew by 4.1 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2022, showing a slight slowdown compared to the 4.5 per cent growth in the previous quarter.
“Despite sustained GDP growth in 2022, the outlook for outward-oriented sectors has become more uncertain due to global economic challenges,” PSD stated. “The Ministry of Trade and Industry has revised Singapore’s GDP growth forecast for 2022 to around 3.5 per cent, down from previous projections of 3.0 to 5.0 per cent in May and 3.0 to 4.0 per cent in August.”
The labour market shows continuing employment growth, but there was a small increase in unemployment rates in September, and retrenchments rose over the quarter, the PSD added.
“The Public Service has made great strides and shown resilience in defending Singapore and its citizens against COVID-19,” PSD said. “The Government greatly values the efforts and sacrifices of all public officers who have faced challenges with commitment and determination.”
