Budget 2024: Higher Payouts, Income Cap Under Enhanced Workfare Income Supplement Scheme

Increased Support for Lower-Wage Workers in Singapore

As part of the 2024 Budget, the Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) scheme will be enhanced to provide more support to lower-wage senior workers. From January 1, 2025, the maximum annual payout under the scheme will increase to S$4,900, up from the current S$4,200. The exact payout for each individual will vary depending on their age and wage level.

Additionally, the income cap to qualify for the scheme will rise from S$2,500 to S$3,000. This adjustment ensures that lower-wage workers will continue to receive support as their earnings increase. The same cap will also apply to the Workfare Skills Support scheme, which helps workers improve their skills.

These changes are expected to benefit approximately 500,000 Singaporeans and will be part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance financial support for low-income workers.
