New 100,000 sq ft Office to Boost Singapore’s Digital Economy
Amazon has taken a significant step in its expansion in Singapore by becoming the anchor tenant at Asia Square with its new 100,000 sq ft corporate office. This development is part of the tech giant’s strategy to create over 200 new employment opportunities in the country by the end of 2022.
Spanning three floors, the new office will accommodate more than 30 teams and up to 700 staff from Amazon’s consumer and corporate sectors. The facility includes areas for product showcases, 50 informal discussion spaces, 5 large meeting rooms equipped for video conferencing, and facilities for work and learning, including 33 quiet rooms, 12 phone booths, and 2 training rooms that can also host town hall events.
Currently, there are over 110 vacancies in Singapore, with plans to increase this number significantly, supporting both the expansion of Amazon’s services and aiding local businesses in their global outreach.
Henry Low, Amazon’s country manager for Singapore, noted that this new office reflects the company’s dedication to investing in Singapore’s digital future. “The post-pandemic work environment has transformed, and this space will facilitate collaboration and innovation,” Low commented.
Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong praised Amazon’s role in enhancing Singapore’s digital landscape, pointing out their support for local SMEs through digitalisation and e-commerce. Amazon currently employs approximately 2,000 people in Singapore, predominantly locals.
Amazon’s journey in Singapore began in 2008 with infrastructure operations, followed by the launch of Amazon Web Services in 2010. Over the years, they’ve introduced Amazon.sg, Amazon Fresh, Prime Video, and Twitch, among other services. The company’s Prime Now facility, established in 2017, has evolved into a broader logistics network.
