Hafizul Harawi receives 14 years in prison for gun possession; two additional charges remain.
On February 25, 2025, Hafizul Harawi, aged 38, was sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison, along with six strokes of the cane, after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including firearm possession and other offences. The former travel agency manager was found guilty by a Kelantan court for seven charges, which also included possessing bullets and firecrackers without the necessary permits.
Hafizul’s conviction stems from an incident that occurred on April 14, 2024, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, where he allegedly fired two shots aimed at his wife, Ms Farah Md Isa, but inadvertently struck her bodyguard instead. The bullet hit the bodyguard in the stomach, resulting in serious injury. The incident reportedly took place amidst a tumultuous period in their marriage, with the couple in the midst of a divorce.
In addition to the gun charges, Hafizul had also thrown a firecracker towards his wife, injuring two bystanders. After the attack, Hafizul fled the scene but was later apprehended in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, two days after the incident.
For his offences, Hafizul was sentenced to six years in jail and six strokes of the cane for possessing a Glock 19 pistol, a prohibited firearm. He also received a three-year sentence for each charge of possessing unlicensed bullets and firecrackers. Furthermore, he was given six months in prison for three counts of having fraudulent identification cards, and an additional one-year sentence for driving a vehicle with a fake number plate.
Although he faced multiple sentences, the judge ordered that these sentences run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of six years in prison, starting from his April 15, 2024 arrest date. Hafizul still faces two remaining charges related to attempted murder and causing grievous harm to his wife’s bodyguard at the Sepang Sessions Court.
