Semiconductor fabrication, which requires vast amounts of purified water, is among the most affected sectors. However, most new semiconductor facilities in Singapore now recycle over 50% of their water usage, according to Ang Wee Seng, executive director of the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA).
The financial impact of the price increase will vary across companies, depending on their position in the manufacturing value chain. Those with higher water recycling capabilities are likely to experience lower cost increases.

Singapore’s manufacturers have invested heavily in water efficiency to remain competitive amid rising operational costs. The country’s sustainable water management policies continue to push industries toward greater self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on fresh water supplies.
