Changi Airport’s Q4 Passenger Traffic Reaches 90% of Pre-Pandemic Level

2023 sees strong traffic recovery with over 58 million passengers, signaling further growth potential in 2024

Changi Airport’s passenger traffic showed remarkable recovery in 2023, with the fourth quarter witnessing a substantial increase. The airport handled 16.1 million passengers in Q4, which brought its annual total to 58.9 million. This marks 86% of pre-pandemic levels from 2019, showing a steady upward trajectory.

In December, the airport experienced its busiest month of the year, with 5.8 million passengers, representing 91% of traffic in December 2019. Strong outbound and inbound travel demand, particularly in Asia, played a significant role in driving this growth.

Regionally, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia showed the highest growth, with Northeast Asia’s traffic increasing over fourfold compared to 2022. Meanwhile, North America exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 25%.

Changi’s top five passenger markets for the year were Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, and India, with China, Japan, and South Korea showing the fastest recovery.

On the cargo side, Changi handled 1.74 million tonnes of airfreight, slightly down from 2022, amidst a volatile global economy. The airport’s recovery is on track, with 93 airlines now operating over 6,700 weekly flights, as Changi continues to aim for full recovery in 2024.
