Budget 2024: S$200 in LifeSG Credits for 1.2 Million NSmen

A Token of Appreciation for National Servicemen and Their Families

In a continued effort to honor Singapore’s national servicemen (NSmen) for their invaluable contributions to the nation, the government will be providing S$200 in LifeSG credits to approximately 1.2 million past and present NSmen, including those enlisting in 2024. The initiative, which will cost the government a total of S$240 million, is aimed at expressing gratitude to NSmen and their families for their service and sacrifices.

Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, during his Budget speech on February 16, 2024, emphasized the importance of national service, stating that it remains the backbone of Singapore’s defense and security. “We owe a huge debt to our national servicemen, who have served faithfully and made immeasurable sacrifices for our peace and security,” Wong said.

The LifeSG credits will be disbursed in November 2024 and are valid for one year. These credits can be used at over 100,000 online and physical merchants that accept PayNow, UEN QR, or Nets QR, offering a wide range of spending options for eligible individuals. Notifications will be sent via SMS to inform those eligible for the credits.

This move follows the S$100 digital credits provided to NSmen as part of the NS55 Recognition Package in 2022, reinforcing the government’s ongoing efforts to appreciate the contributions of NSmen across generations. The LifeSG credits initiative is another significant step in acknowledging the critical role played by these individuals in safeguarding Singapore’s peace and security.
