Panel discussion to explore economic and social challenges facing Singapore post-Covid
Finance Minister Lawrence Wong will participate in a roundtable discussion on March 6, 2023, organized by The Business Times and The Straits Times. The event will cover Singapore’s efforts to create a more inclusive society and dynamic economy amid global challenges. Key topics include the effective training of workers, equitable tax burden distribution, and the ongoing debate over rising housing prices.
The ST-BT Budget Roundtable 2023, sponsored by UOB, will take place after the Committee of Supply debates conclude in Parliament. Other panellists include UOB senior economist Alvin Liew, K Thanaletchimi from the National Trades Union Congress, and Vikram Khanna from The Straits Times, who will moderate the session.
The discussion will also touch upon the S$0.4 billion fiscal deficit expected for FY2023 and the new Job-Skills Integrators initiative introduced in the February 14 Budget statement. Additionally, the panel will explore topics such as social mobility, the future of tripartism, financial assistance for retrenched workers, and strategies for productivity-driven growth.
