4,985 New Covid-19 Cases Reported in Singapore, Up from 2,389 Cases on May 30

Hospitalizations increase, with three deaths reported amidst a surge in cases

On May 31, 2022, Singapore reported a significant surge in new Covid-19 cases, with 4,985 confirmed, more than double the 2,389 cases from the previous day (May 30). The number of cases was lower than the 5,727 reported on May 24, but case numbers typically spike on Tuesdays, reflecting increased infections after the weekend.

Of the new cases, 4,774 were locally transmitted, with 429 detected through PCR tests and 4,345 via antigen rapid tests (ART), indicating mild or no symptoms in most patients. Additionally, there were 211 imported cases, with 10 identified by PCR and 201 through ART.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 330 hospitalizations, including 11 patients in intensive care and 38 requiring oxygen support. Three deaths were also confirmed due to the virus.
