Two More Seniors Die from Covid-19, Taking Singapore’s Death Toll to 95; 2,478 New Cases Reported

Seniors affected as new clusters emerge, while hospitalizations rise amidst ongoing pandemic struggles

Two more seniors have died from complications related to Covid-19, bringing Singapore’s total death toll to 95. The deceased individuals were a 79-year-old permanent resident and an 87-year-old citizen, both of whom were not vaccinated and had underlying medical conditions. The Ministry of Health (MOH) did not disclose the specifics of their conditions. This marks the 11th consecutive day that deaths from Covid-19 have been reported.

In addition to the fatalities, 2,478 new cases were recorded, with 2,022 coming from the community and 452 from migrant worker dormitories. Four imported cases were also reported. Among the new community cases, 535 involved seniors aged 60 and above.

A new cluster of 29 cases has been traced to MWS Christalite Methodist Home in Marsiling, with 28 of the cases being residents and one staff member. Additionally, six new clusters have emerged in migrant worker dormitories, including a large outbreak at 9 Defu South Street 1, which accounted for 151 cases.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore now stands at 96,521. As of the latest update, 1,360 individuals are hospitalized, 204 of whom require oxygen supplementation, and 34 are in critical condition. Among the critically ill patients, 197 are seniors over the age of 60.
