Over 100,000 teleconsultations involved video calls under one minute, raising ethical concerns
Singapore’s telehealth practices have come under scrutiny following a report revealing MaNaDr Clinic’s involvement in clinically and ethically inappropriate teleconsultations. The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced on August 16 that MaNaDr’s services would be suspended “until further notice,” after finding that more than 100,000 teleconsultations in one sampled month involved video calls lasting one minute or less.
These short consultations frequently resulted in medical certificates (MCs) being issued, with some patients obtaining multiple MCs in a short span of time. This has raised concerns about the integrity of telehealth practices, and there may be more cases of errant doctors yet to be identified.
