Pandemic Boosts Fun Claw’s Growth, As More People Turn to Claw Games for Entertainment
Claw machine operators in Singapore saw an unexpected growth surge during the Covid-19 pandemic, with entertainment-seeking locals flocking to claw machine stores. Unable to travel, many turned to this fun pastime as a way to pass the time, helping to increase sales and store expansions.
Fun Claw, for instance, grew from 17 stores before the pandemic to 25 today, a direct result of the “unique growth opportunity” presented by the lockdown period. The pandemic drove more people to visit claw machines, and sales jumped significantly, with stores like ClawGey registering monthly sales of S$100,000.
Bryan Ong, co-founder of ClawGey, shared that the lack of travel led to more people looking for entertainment locally, which benefited their business model of offering games to grab stuffed toys and other prizes. As the pandemic affected other entertainment sectors, the claw machine business thrived, offering a much-needed form of leisure.
