PM Wong to deliver 2025 Budget statement on Feb 18

Cost-of-living issues and jobs are among the key themes

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong will deliver Singapore’s Budget 2025 statement in Parliament on February 18. This will be his fourth time delivering the annual speech, and the first since he became Prime Minister in May 2024. It will also be the last Budget before the next general election, which is required to be held by November 2025.

The Budget statement will be broadcast live on television, radio, and online at www.singaporebudget.gov.sg, with the full text available on the website after delivery.

During a press conference in November, PM Wong highlighted key themes for Budget 2025, including addressing cost-of-living issues, economic strategies, and supporting training and job creation. The government’s pre-Budget consultations will focus on providing support for Singaporeans across various life stages, such as those starting families and those balancing responsibilities for both children and elderly parents. Additionally, the consultations aim to strengthen national solidarity as Singapore celebrates its 60th anniversary of independence next year.

Members of the public are invited to share their views and hopes for the Budget through Reach’s Budget 2025 microsite until January 12, 2025. A physical feedback session will also be held on January 16, 2025, at One Raffles Place.

PM Wong has also emphasized the need for Singapore to enhance its network of international friends and partners, particularly in light of a “less hospitable” geopolitical environment, especially for small countries. The government aims to tackle cost-of-living concerns, provide support for seniors, and address jobs in the upcoming Budget.

Following the delivery of the Budget, Parliament will debate the statement, after which the Prime Minister will make a round-up speech addressing queries and feedback. Parliament will then examine each ministry’s spending plans in the Committee of Supply.
