Incident at Tampines Logistics Hub Leads to Evacuation and Ongoing Investigations
A package containing corrosive substances was discovered at Singapore Post’s eCommerce Logistics Hub in Tampines on 7 March around 4 pm, according to Lianhe Zaobao. The incident prompted a three-hour cordon of the facility, requiring nearly 100 individuals to evacuate.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that four workers who handled the package reported irritation on their hands and sought treatment at a nearby polyclinic before SCDF’s arrival. A 43-year-old man is assisting police with investigations, according to the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
Timeline of Events
The package was found leaking an unidentified liquid at SingPost’s Logistics Hub, located at 37 Greenwich Drive. SCDF officers, equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), secured the package and identified the substance as corrosive through tests conducted by Hazmat specialists.
The sealed package was later handed over to the police for further investigation. Four men, aged 17 to 27, sustained minor injuries but declined hospital transport, while a 40-year-old man was taken to the hospital conscious.
Ongoing Investigations
The SPF confirmed that investigations are underway, and the 43-year-old individual is cooperating with authorities.
SingPost’s Response
SingPost stated that operations at the Logistics Hub resumed promptly after the incident. While expressing their commitment to safety, the company declined further comment as investigations continue.
