HDB Assures Quality Control and Maintenance
Concerns have been raised regarding mould growth on the exterior walls of housing blocks at Anchorvale Parkview in Sengkang. A resident highlighted the issue, expressing concerns about the impact on her family’s health and the aesthetic appeal of the development.
In response, HDB clarified that all new HDB developments are painted with high-quality, algae-resistant paint, adhering to Singaporean standards. This paint system includes a water-based sealer for better adhesion and two coats of algae-resistant emulsion paint. Furthermore, HDB provides a six-year warranty on external painting, ensuring that defects or imperfections, including mould growth, are rectified by the contractor.
HDB is currently investigating the specific issues at Anchorvale Parkview in collaboration with the relevant town council.
Member of Parliament for Sengkang, Dr Jamus Lim, has acknowledged the residents’ concerns and is working with the town council to expedite the repainting process. He attributed the potential mould growth to factors such as paint selection and the building’s proximity to a river and direct sunlight.
This incident underscores the importance of ongoing maintenance and quality control in public housing developments. HDB’s commitment to addressing these concerns and ensuring the well-being of residents is crucial for maintaining the quality and livability of public housing in Singapore.
