Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke, in a recent address at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, emphasized the importance of strong bilateral relations between Malaysia and Singapore. Minister Loke underscored the importance of political stability in Malaysia, noting the frequent changes in leadership in recent years. He emphasized the need for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to serve a full term, emphasizing the negative impact of political instability on the country’s development.
In his role as Transport Minister, Loke prioritized enhancing connectivity between the two countries, particularly focusing on improving the stability and efficiency of Kuala Lumpur’s public transport system. He expressed his intention to learn from Singapore’s successful public transport model and collaborate closely with Singaporean counterparts on projects such as the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System.
Building Trust and Cooperation:
Minister Loke emphasized the importance of open communication and trust between the two countries. He assured the Singaporean government that there would be no “surprises” from his ministry and that all issues would be addressed through constructive dialogue and cooperation.
