Singaporeans Prioritize Housing Affordability and Cost of Living: YouGov Poll

Public Concerns Amidst Economic Shifts

A recent YouGov poll reveals that housing affordability and the rising cost of living are top concerns for Singaporeans. Two-thirds of respondents expressed a desire for greater government focus on addressing housing affordability challenges, while 89% highlighted the increasing cost of living as a significant concern.

These concerns arise amidst a backdrop of economic shifts, including rising interest rates and an influx of high-net-worth individuals and high-earning professionals. While these factors contribute to Singapore’s economic growth and position as a global financial hub, they also impact the cost of living for local residents.

The survey, conducted with 1,045 respondents between December 14th and 18th, 2023, found that Singaporeans highly value the government’s efforts in maintaining law and order, public health, and economic management.

YouGov employed a rigorous methodology to ensure the representativeness of the sample, considering factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, and electorate.

These findings underscore the need for the Singaporean government to address the growing concerns of its citizens regarding housing affordability and the rising cost of living while navigating the complexities of a dynamic global economic landscape.
